Sunday 5th October 2008 – London to Brighton 56-Mile Trail Run


The first running of this race took place in horrendously wet conditions with rain throughout the whole day. Paul Brackett struggled with dreadful underfoot conditions but finished well up the field. 33 runners failed to finish. Winning time: 7:59 Number of finishers: 81

Steve Frear pulled out all the stops to win this one. Bryan Vaughan took 3rd V50 honours & Mike Shipway was 3rd V60. Our men (Steve, James, Kevin & Bryan)finished 3rd team and there were personal bests from Kevin Game, Hans Price, Mark Pidgeon, Karen Jenkins & Tracey Scarlett. It was good to see Robert & Suzanne Briggs back in racing trim. Winning time: 26:04 Number of finishers: 220

19th October 2008 – Abingdon Marathon (County Championships)

This turned out to be a good day for us as our senior men took gold and our veteran men silver in the County team competition. There were positive debut runs for the Club from James Bolton, Hans Price, Steve Howell, Mike Beerling & Karen Jenkins and personal bests from Leo-Brooke Little and Tracey Scarlett. Mike Shipway took 2nd V60 open and 1st V60 County honours. Peter Rayner was 2nd County V50 to finish and James Bolton 3rd County Senior Man. A special word of praise for Karen Jenkins who collapsed during the race but got up to finish well.Dave Cantwell has now joined the Club but was running unattached. Winning time: 2:32:25 Number of finishers:647

Both Dean & Sharron Sheppard were held up in a very slow start clocking nearly 9 minutes for the first mile, but then ran on well to finish strongly. Winning time: 46:43 Number of finishers: 11,540
