Hook Norton Christmas Canter – December 17th

New member Katherine Jones was first female in the 16th running of this unmeasured multi-terrain hilly Cotswold run (approximately 7miles) held on Sunday 17th December. Susan Haines writes “it was a mud fest and windy but very colourful with most runners in fancy dress. The water station half way round had water and mulled wine. There were mince pies and mulled wine for everyone at the end. The winners won Christmas puddings.”

Oxon XC Race 2 – December 3rd

Woodstock had just one brave junior taking part namely Bea Hawkins in the under 11 Girls event. Well done Bea. The conditions for all senior races were very testing with muddy downhill sections and steep gradients.

James Bolton led us home in the men’s event taking 1st MV50 honours with Tom Preskett managing to steal a march on David Watkinson who had another excellent run securing 1st MV55 placing.

James Groves and Dave Cantwell had a running battle throughout the race with James gaining a small advantage over his older rival at the finish. It was good to see Rob Webster making his cross-country debut this year over his least favoured surface beating the other Rob, Rob Linnell by half a minute.

Louis Warden continued his improvement and clearly enjoyed the muddy conditions as did Warwick Morris who showed some good progress since his Cornbury baptism of fire. Making his first appearance over the country, Phil Horgan looked comfortable and Chairman Neil Preddy put in his usual brave effort.

Happily now recovered from injury, Lizzie Welsh headed our women’s team and there were also painful smiles for Claire Court and Monica Azulay both enjoying the adulation from our cheering supporters when scaling the final climb towards the finish.

Eynsham 10k – 26 November

Winning Time: 32:36

Number of finishers: 573

Almost 600 runners took part in the last Oxon Grand Prix event of the year which doubled as the County 10K Championships.

James Bolton had another great run holding on to 3rd place until the last mile when he was overhauled by two younger men. James took 1st MV50 in open and County races whilst David Watkinson was 3rd in the same County age category and Dave Cantwell 4th.

Caroline Johnstone and Claire Court were just outside the County medal placings both managing 4th spots. It seems that 5 Harriers did not enter the County competition for some reason.

Handicap overall

Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile – 19 November

Andrew’s summary: “This is the oldest 10 mile race in the UK. Run for the 71st time this year, it was my first. Looking for 8 minute miles, I just failed at the end with 1:20:08. I’m going with the chip timing as it was a bit chaotic at the start; 7th MV65.  Just under 700 runners, it was won in 49:22.”
